Our Story - Athens Equine

At Athens Equine, family and horses are at the heart of everything we do.

Founded in 2012 by Dr. Todd Laughrey and his wife Marcie Laughrey, our practice was built on a shared passion: delivering exceptional veterinary care while treating every horse and every client as part of our extended family.

From the beginning, our mission has been clear:

To treat every horse like a champion and every owner like family.

Dr. Laughrey brings decades of experience and a deep commitment to equine health, having graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. After years of serving horses in both Florida and Texas, Todd and Marcie made Athens their home, creating a clinic tailored to the unique needs of equine athletes across disciplines racing, reining, barrel-racing, cow-horse, and more.

Our family roots run deep. Marcie comes from the renowned Partin ranching family, whose long-standing reputation for excellence in cattle and horsemanship has influenced generations across the agricultural community. Building on that foundation, Todd and Marcie have created a legacy of care, integrity, and service in the equine and agricultural community. Their children Kaitlyn, Clay, Colt and grandchildren James and Lane continue to inspire the family’s commitment to excellence and personal connection.

Today, Athens Equine is proud to be part of the Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery (ESMS / Inova Partners) network, allowing us to offer advanced performance medicine, reproductive services, and comprehensive equine care. Our team blends years of hands-on expertise with cutting-edge diagnostics, rehabilitation therapies, and customized care plans to help every horse perform at its best.
